OK, I just want someone to explain this to me....

What is the difference between a "Soft" and a "Firm" ride? I see the terms tossed around a lot on the forum, but am kind of in a grey area.

If anyone wants to give me a quick lesson, that would be great!

soft = bouncy, squishy, like this

firm = stiff, hard, jolting, like this

yeah think of it like a ride in a cadillac vs a pickup truck. kinda like that i reckon. you'll hear this a lot when talking about the bilstein shocks, they give you a firmer ride.

okay, while we're on it, here's my question. what's the 4wd shifter on the inside called, the thing you put in 4lo or 4hi. i thought there's some techincal name for it

I like the ride of my 4Runner vs my uncles cadillac. His car feels all soft and slushy, whereas the 4R is pleasant to drive. My mom just commented on how nice the pickup is to drive, as well. It doesn't even have bilsteins, it has cheapo shocks (for now)
