GM 2.8 In 88 Toyota 4x4???

I was wondering, is it possible to fit a GM 2.8 in a 88 Toyota? I am going to assume that it is, but does anybody have any idea on how to do it? Before you all go off the deep end about putting a 2.8 in my yota, trust me, this is a good move(for me anyways). I have a 2.8 in my S-10 blazer that is making 240 hp. and 240 Ft. Lbs torque(just about 2x what the 22RE has). Any suggestions on how to make this work? I have searched the net to no avail, and can find nothing.

P.S. The reason that I'm not interested in leaving the 2.8 in the blazer is that it has eaten a brand new tranny, and it took it only 6k miles!

the 2.8 is in the world of GM a wierd engine... it doesnt bolt up to anything like GMs other stuff... the 4.3l v6 or the 5.7l 350 ci would be a better swap option and several companies sell direct swap kits for those engines

I agree that a 4.3 or a 5.7 would be nice and easy, BUT, I dont have either of them sitting around not doing anything. I have found several mentions of it being done to a toyota, but no info. I am looking for info here. If I cant find any info on how to put it in the yota, I will cram it into my parents fiero.....and kill myself......

Fitting the engine under the hood should be the easy part.

It will be more difficult to get it to match up with your Toyota tranny, or are you planning to swap trannies and t-cases also? Have you checked Advance Adapters, or, dare I recommend them, Downey Off Road?

I thought the 2.8 was the most hated Chevy engine... Carbed and not EFI...
Are you sure it has 240 HP/Ft-Lbs... I thought that was the 4.3 with that kinda of power.

Then again I could be completely wrong.

I had GM's 2.8L engine in my Olds Cutlass Supreme... Why do you think I drive a Toyota now?

I checked with advance adapters allready, they have nothing. I am going to look at downey as soon as I'm done with this post.
As far as the power/tq is concerned....yes, it is right. We ran it on a dyno at my auto tech school last year(doesn't make a print-out), but the engine is no longer 2.8 actually, it is a 3.1, the heads were ported(alot, allmost doubled the flow under .1 inch), holley 390 carb., edelbrock intake & headers, roller tip rockers, & GM H.O. 2.8 fiero cam. I know that the engine is very powerful(burnouts with the blazer was very fun....kinda never ending), and in terms of reliability, everything is new.
I thought about swapping it with the trans, but I would prefer to keep the 5 speed that I have right now.....if possible. If not, I do have a 5 speed in another blazer that I can get....

You are the first person I have ever heard to have not only have a good experience with a 2.8, but also to get any decent power out of it.

as others have said the 2.8 is crap... thats great you have $ into it.. more power to you... but as far as it mating to your toyota tranny, it isnt happening... and the engine wont mount to anyones existing swap kit..... basically the options are scrap the idea, or buy a milling maching and get schooling and make one....

Stay away from that motor. I worked in a garage for a while and heard nothing good at all about that motor. And I've never seen any adapters or anything for that motor.
Sorry to repeat everything everybody else already said, but I figure its another vote.

I hated my Blazer with the 2.8! It was a horrible engine..lots of quirks..and I only got 61,000 miles out of it. Back then it was normal to get such low miles out of GM's "new" engines. I always liked the 4.3...seemed like a strong engine...but hell, if you are going to do it, do it right Put a 350 in that bad boy

If the truck you're swapping the 2.8 into is currently a 4 cyl, the drivetrain may not hold up for long if you like fast starts. Thats a big increase in power. I've seen an 85 Runner with the 4.3 and the guy took it easy to minimise broken parts. Check on the Pirate board for this swap. Someone may have done it there.

It would take a modded out 2.8L to make 240 crank h.p. I mean were talking head work, you name it. It might even take a small shot of N20 to get to that level.

The non-vortec 4.3L made 160 h.p. and Vortec 4.3L's made 190 h.p. until 2003 I believe when they cut their power down to 180 h.p.

It's funny, but GM's new 5 cyl is rated at 220 h.p. and gets the fuel mileage of a 4 cyl.

The 4.3L is in need of a major wakeup or just needs to be scrapped due to progress.

nah, the 2.8 typically only has around 90hp

this guy must be a magician, the 2.8 is commonly known as the worst engine of all time. even a 3vze swap would be money better spent...

I don't think of myself as a magician. I guess if I cant make the motor work in the truck, I guess that I will just have to tinker with the 2.4 thats in it. I have a spare head for the 2.4, and I see lots of areas to improve upon.

If any of you are doubting that my 2.8(3.1 actually) is making 240 hp/tq NA, i guess its your loss.

Now, I guess my alternative is to replace the trans in the blazer, or, put it in a 86(or 87, something like that)Fiero. I guess the Fiero would be more fun......Any thoughts?

If it had a blower and you were drinking it might make 240hp
