Iv searched and could not find anything. I remeber a while ago seeing something but I can not get back to the thread I was reading. If this problem is already explained please let me know and delete this thread...

took the lock off my 4runner glove box (99'). I have the original key and it goes half way in like its supposed to I guess but does not lock. I see how it works from the back but it just will not turn the lever thingy. I have had my 4runner for about 5 years almost 6 I think now and have never tried to fix it but have had stuff stolen out of my 4runner that could have been in the glove box locked.

Im afraid to twist 2 hard because the key will break off into it. Heres what im looking at...

Is it possible that the key you have is the valet key? if it is (if they make them for the generation) then I'm guessing it shouldn't work. other than that, I wish I could help.

do the come with a separate key for the glove box ? the one thats for the doors and the ignition dont work

yes they do have valet keys and I think that may be one. the valet key for mine has a thiner tip on the end kinda like the one shown.

All my keys work with all locks including ignition and glove. Was there only certain models that came with the valet key??

Is there anyway to get a new key for the glove box? I did not receive but one key when I bought it. Would I have to pay for a locksmith to make a key for it or something?

Maybe go up to a yota dealer and c if they have any laying around..

Yep, you should be able to go to the dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership and they'll make you a key off of that. I've done it, and its the best key I've ever had. None of that Home Depot crap for me any more.

You were right! Went up to a Yota dealer and they made me a Master key. Works great. Thanx guys.
