get the truck, or keep the 4Runner?

Ok heres the poll: I have the opportunity to either keep my beloved 4Runner or trade it for a p/u of the same year. Both are 87 22RE with 5spds. If I choose the truck I also get about 800 bucks in the trade. What does everyone think? Heres some pics:

First the pickup:

The 4Runner is the same as avatar... I'll get some pics posted tomorrow morning.... let me know what you guys (or gals) think!

oh and both have all the nice stuff that works, A/C, cruise etc... and the truck is a longbed, with a nicer stereo (not by much, but a greater potential)....

A better question would be: What do you need?

Well i move every three months, so i need something that can haul all my stuff... thats the requirement. everything barely fits in the Runner, but i figure with a shell on the back of the longbed i'll have as much, if not more room.

How many miles are on the truck and 4runner?

Has the cancer gone all the way through on the bed yet? Have you looked at the frame to see if it has any bad rust spots?

I'll wait for pics of the 4runner and then vote.

keep the runner... appears to be in better condition... a new bed and a shell is going to cost more than $800 or close and some work to install it... i wouldnt think it was worth it......

also the longer wheelbase will be better in some offroad situations, however, the runner will be better in most

Ok here's the 4Runner:

Sorry about the bad pics, all I have is a camera phone.

The 4Runner actually has more rust than the truck does... the cancer has gotten to all four wheel wells on the 4Runner, its only gotten to the bed on the truck. It hasn't made it all the way through the bed yet. The 4Runner has 209k miles, the truck has 176k miles. The timing chain, tranny fluid, and almost all the little things have been fixed or changed on the 4Runner; I don't know where the truck is in maintainance.

Oh, and the pickup was just purchased by my mother as a toy... which means it would be a easy trade... and at the very least if I keep the 4Runner, I've got her talked out of the rims and tires (new 31X10.5's) because she doesn't like them (bonus for me!)

I voted p/u since you say the rust is worse on the 4Runner. Also sounds like you need the p/u more and you won't find a more trustworthy seller!

Maybe you can find a good bed at a salvage yard?

I voted to keep the 4Runner, just because you can carry more than two people in it.

Well, i like trucks better, but if you have a family the 4-runner is nice. I'd say that upshot to keeping the runner is that you know it. If you know the guy with the truck, thats different. But he may have been putting crap aftermarket parts in it, not maintaining it, etc. Just my 2 cents

well i don't have a family, but im in college, so hauling people is common... i don't know the history of the truck, so it would be starting from square one. another thing, the rust doesn't scare me, whichever one i have is going to be in snow belt during the worst months, so its going to get worse... and i do know how to do body and paint.

Keep the 4Runner and if you need more room when you move pick up a small utility trailer, new around $600 at HomeDepot/Lowes or find one used for half that.

Neither.

Man rust like that gives me the willies. You're gonna be replacing the bed on the truck and it sounds like the 4Runner isn't much better. There's better stuff than that for sale down here. There's a 1st gen right around the corner, not for sale, but looks like pretty good rust free condition. Go southwest bud...
