Cool Gen 3 first flight lights for second flight lights

Has anyone done the direct swap of the head lights from 99-02 (second flight) to 96-98 (first flight? Really do like the clear reflective look and would like to upgrade my head lights. If there are any links regarding this I would really appreciate it, or anyone who has done this please post. Would like to try it but don't want to expend the funds if its not a simple change over or at least a simple modification.

Got my wiring harness for my driving lights so might start that one too. 'Limited' conversion pretty much done. Will post some pics of that too after I get them uploaded to photobucket, what a hectic week it has been in the Pacific Northwest! Escaped the flooding but what a mess its been trying to get around. Found out the hard way that my 4x4 was out. Lost the transfer case selector switch, more on that saga ....

From what I've researched so far (which is very minimal, by the way) it's a direct swap. I've been thinking of doing this as well, as the lighting pattern from the pre-99 headlights are not the greatest. on my trip back from alaska coming through canada, i was wishing i had better night vision. some of the curves in the wooded areas weren't the great and scary at night as i was on the lookout for deer, elk, bear, squirrels, etc...

good luck on the 4x4 fix. sure is crazy how the water rose down there. we got almost nothing up here in n. seattle. we could tell the snohomish was high, but that's about it!

I did the swap on my 98. It's a direct swap with no wiring - plugs and plays!

I put 2002 headlamps on my 1997 and they fit perfectly. With the new headlamps, the beam spread on the ground is slightly brighter and wider with most of the extra brightness being closest to the front of the 4Runner. The "E-code like" cutoff of the OLD headlamps is more defined and sharp than the cutoff of the new headlamps.
