Gears and lockers
I have a 3 inch lift on my truck. It has a 22R 4-cylinder in it. I'm thinking about putting 4.88 gears in her and a detroit true trac any suggestions or comments. Will the locker help in snow and mudd in 2-wheel drive, and also with the gears make a big difference in high way performance and overall stop and go driving. Thanks in advance.

FWIW, a True Track is not a "locker" it is a "limited-slip". Being a limited slip, it will help in the snow and ice without any serious detrimental effects on dry pavement like a locker has. The 4.88 gears are gonna increase your engine speeds dramatically unless you install 32-33" tires to compensate.

running 488 gears and 33's will bring the drivetrain to a stock dinal drive ratio but running the 33's will definately decrease your mpg's because of the rolling resistance (friction) of the larger tires. if you want a locker you can go with a lock right, works good and is really cheap.

I'm sure the mpg will be better with the 4.88 rather than stock gears with 33's, and the acceleration will increase too right? I don't know if I want a locker or not, I just want something that will help control the slip when I'm in the rain or comming up a hill on a gravel road etc.
