gears from 4cyl fit a v6?
i have a 4 banger with 4.88s and im getting ready to swap those for 5.29s. i have a buddy with a v6 who wants my old 4.88s. just not sure if they'll work. thanks

Don't think so. The V6 gears are larger. All the gear companies show different part numbers for the Turbo & V6 gears than for the 4 cyl gears. The V6 and 4cyl third members don't interchange either.

There are plenty of 4-bangers that have the "V6" 4-pinion third so in that case it is totally possible. The difference is the thickness of the ring gear, all they need to do is swap complete thirds and they should be good to go.

I'm pretty sure you can use a shim to fit a 4 cyl ring gear into a v6 case. They might be a little weaker, but it can be done, and I think it's pretty common. The toyota faq at pirate explains it all.
