Question Gear ratio question

I asked this in another thread but I didn't get an answer...

My truck's stock gear ratio is 3.91

Will I be able to take a 3rd member with an ARB locker geared at 3.93?

I know nothing about the gearing stuff and have no idea if that .02 will make a difference.

Thanks everyone!

The difference in ratio is insignificant and will not cause a problem.

According to your sig you're 2wd. Swap it in! The only possible issue would come about with 4wd, but the diffference is small enough that there wouldn't be any anyway.

If you're 2wd, the gear ratio doesn't matter - you can swap in a 3rd with whatever gears you want.

...another thing, is an ARB air locker installation something I could do? Or is it such a paint that I should get it professionally done?

Thanks!

If you've never set gears, or don't have the tools to do it, have it professionally done. I've done a few ARB's, it isn't really any more difficult than setting the gears themselves, just adds a little more time.

Hmmm... do you know how much I should expect?
... and is $540 still a good deal?

If you are talking about buying a third with the ARB locker already installed, then yes, you can do it yourself. Installing a new third is very easy!

If you are talking about installing the ARB locker into the third member, then have it professionally done.

There's no way a truck came stock with 4.11's in front and 4.90's in the rear. FWIW, that isn't even a 9" gear ratio (4.88 is closest). There are quite a few mismatched stock vehicles. Usually, they are a point or two different with the higher (numerically lower) ratio in front.

I can see that as a factory mismatch. A little large, but not excessive and certainly feasible.

Wasn't 4.09 to 4.11 a common Bronco mismatch?

Not to completely hi jack or anything.
