Gas gauge

Hello everyone, i just bought a 2000 4runner and got my first question of thousands to come i am sure. I just took it on a road trip and i know they have 70 litre tanks on them. from when the gas light was on to fill, i could only get 46 litres in it.. what gives? Also when that 46 litres filled it up, 50 kms into the trip, the gas guage was already down from full, to 3/4. maybe i have been driving volkswagens for too long but that doesnt seem right to me

Do a search on it, there are several threads reguarding the TSB on the 4runner. Mine does the same thing, and it is not covered if you are past the 3/36 warranty. It was going to cost me about 300 or so to get it fixed, I now live with it.

I got pretty lucky...I bought my 2000 4runner limited with 30,000 miles on it, and 6 months left under the 3/36 warranty...I also had the fuel tank issue and took it to my local dealer. I told them about the TSB, but they ordered the wrong part so my car sat for a 1/2 day for no reason. It then took about a month to get the right parts, including the odometer plate.

In the meantime, the parts guy felt so bad he sold me a fog light switch at cost ($4) so I did the DRL switch mod. Then, he gave me 2 oil filters free (OEM Toyota).

The parts came in and the work was done yesterday (8:30-2:30). When I got in, the odometer was back to the mileage at my last visit (apparently they order the odometer and have to order it with mileage on it) so I picked up a free 1200 miles on my warranty! And now my gas guage reads the way it should. The lady that owned my truck before me must have been going nuts, or she didn't care about the fuel issue, but it bugged the livin sh@t out of me.

Has anyone had the tsb done in Canada. If so what are the mileage limits on it here. I buy toyota because i don't like having to live with glitches like this. But $300us is serious money.

My 2000 does the same thing. The gauge says empty and the light comes on and I still have 4.5 gal of gas left in the tank. I am past the 3/36 so I am going to live with it, at least I know I have plenty of gas left in the tank.

The Blazer I got rid of for my Runner was awful, when the light came on you better find a gas station quick, there was less than 1 gal left in the tank.

You need to take your 4Runner to the dealer and ask them to run the VIN and check for the TSB's regarding the problems your having.... (do a search for the actual TSB number so you dont get the run around)

I had the same problem, I ran it to the dealer and told the what the situation was and I knew there was a TSB for my problem, an hour later they had slapped a vent (and some other stuff) on my rig and sent me on my way. I still have the problem but not as extreme as before.
