Full time power outlet MOD

i read the write up on the full time power outlet mod and saw people on do writeups on their 3rd gens. So what im asking here is, is it possible to do it on a second gen runner. If so could someone tell me if its the same or a little different.

I don't really see how it could be any different?
Are you talking about the method that involves installing a new fixture? Or are you talking about the method that involves just a little rewiring?

Ah..
I have no experience with anything other than my own truck but I don't see why it wouldn't work?

As for me? I'd rather add a device. Kind of like Bob's or Corey's write-up in the tech section.
Corey's write up - the one that involves the multi DC to one (like a power strip) - I prefer most. No drilling, quick and easy to do. Best of all, easily undone.

BUT I'm not answering your question so here's a BUMP for ya

Actually, I have the same thing too
I haven't put it in though... no time and plans surrounding my truck are in the air.

Here's a writeup on a 2nd gen.
I did mine a little different. I ran a (fused) wire driectly to the inverter from the battery. I transfered the on/off switch on the inverter to the wall switch. I also set it up in the storage compartment on the drivers side.

In the near future im going to run a 0 gauge wire from my battery to a breaker under the hood and then all the way to the back. This will cut down on all the fuses and clean up the wiring I have now. Somebody already mentioned this idea on the forum but I forgot who.

This is the only real pic I have of my setup
Look Closely

Phalanx,

If I read what you wrote correctly, you have a single wire directly to the inverter. If so, this is not safe especially if you have the wire spanning the entire length of your 4runner. Check out my write up for reference, esp Step 3.

http://www.4runners.org/articles/dist/

If by chance there is some electrical overload or some other anamoly, the *entire* length of that wire running to your inverter will heat up and may catch fire. Talk about a disaster!

The safest way to hook up your inverter is create a short (12" or less) wire from your battery's positive wire to the fuse. Then run a wire the rest of the way to your inverter. That way, if the wire catches, the fuse will "pop" and effectively eliminate the chance of the wire catching fire. If it does catch fire, it will only be the 12" short section.

This is my wiring diagram: http://www.4runners.org/images/dist/master_plan.jpg

Did you see my write-up for the 2nd gen?
It's in the Tech zone.
http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/corey_12v/corey.htm

Full time power all the time.
It would do you good to do both it and also the aux. fuse box mod I did, also detailed in full in Tech.

Bob,
There is a fuse on that wire before the firewall, little bit more than 2' but its there. I guess I was kinda vague. What do you think about the breaker idea?

Phalanx,

With regards to breakers, I read a very compelling reason NOT to use a breaker in place of a fuse. However, I cannot remember what that compelling reason is at the moment (no old age jokes, please). But whatever it was at the time, i chose to heed that advice and go w/ the fuse.

After reading this again, I was not sure if you meant full time 12 or 110 v power, was sleepy last night

Here's mine for the 110 v one.

Very easy to do.
