fuel tank capacity
I recently purchased a 4runner 2000 SR5 and have a question. The owners manuall claims that the fuel capicity is 18 gallons. The refuel light sems to come on at about -13 gallons. I ususally will go about 240 miles before refuling and have never put more than 14 gallons in the tank. I find it hard to belive that I still have 4 gallons of fuel left. Do i really have an 18 gallon tank????
thanks!

not sure if it's true, but the light comes on to assure that you have time to get to a gas station. mine usually comes on around 14 gallons...the MOST ive ever filled up was 15 gallons..that was 30 min after the light came on when i was driving to chicago...

Ok thanks guys!!!! I had a feeling this was probably a known issue. Great posts on the subject by the way. Because I purchased from a Nissan dealer w/no warranty I’m probably going to have to pay for the repair.... if I want to get it fixed that is.
I also have an xterra but like the 4runner better. I tow & ride motorcycles out west occasionally and just made a trek out to lake city co. with the 4runner. I noticed a huge difference towing a load up and through mountain passes on the highway compared with the xterra. This is also a great off road vehicle!!!!

I think on mine it's a 16 gallon tank but the most I've ever filled up is about 13.7 but never had the fuel light come on yet but I'm only on my 3rd tank of gas since I bought it.
The funny thing is the tank is the same size as my Eclipse's tank and I get better mileage with the 4Runner plus I don't need premium anymore.

tank range
I usually go 300 plus miles before I fill up. I bet I could go 350-360 if I really needed to, but why take the risk. Most of my driving is highway commuting.

300+? Wow,I usually can squeeze in about 13.5 gallons and I see about 270ish but I've never ran it til the light came on,I'll have to run it that low and see actually what I get.
