Has anybody every installed a Fuel pump on a 3rd Generation 4Runner? If so, how do you get the plate holding the fuel pump reinstalled on the tank, and how do you tell which of the five wires go in which receptacle hole of the electrical contact on the plate holding the fuel pump (also how do you get the wires to stay in the hole?)? Thanks a lot everybody.

The easiest way to replace the fuel pump is to drop the tank, then re-installing the plate is quite easy. The wires are attached by a plug, if you have 5 separate wires you pulled them out of the connector, in which case you'll need to do some repair work. As for the extent, can't say without physically seeing the damage.

There shouldn't be 5 separate loose wires, but a connector that is part of the wiring harness that plugs into the top plate. You pulled the wires out of the wrong part.

Do you know the name of the wire I need to buy to replace the connector. I guess that is what I have done, because I have five wires with plug in type prongs on the ends of them and five holes , two in the front and three in the back on the top plate which bolts onto the fuel tank. One wire is yellow/red, one wire is black/red, one wire is brown, and their are two thicker wires which are white/black and blue. Thanks a lot for your help.

blue - circuit opening relay & data link connector
white/black = ground
brown = o2 sensors
black/red = injectors
yellow/red = AFM

Don't quote me on these, I'm NOT 100% Positive!!!!
I'd go to your nearest Toyota Dealer and get the connector that you need and all you have to do is plug it in because it only plugs in one way. And you don't have to worry about color codes.

Since the prongs pulled out with the wire, it should be an easy fix. pull the plastic connector off then try and plug the pins back into it. There may be a small tab that locks them in that could have gotten bent duriing removal. I'm trying to look up the wiring diagram on that particular connector.
