Fuel Filter Replacement and Issues

Hey I was wondering how many miles until you need to replace your fuel filter? And what are the symptoms associated with it. It seems to me that my Runner takes off ok and starts to accelerate ok but at about 3100 rpm is just sputters for about a 1/2 sec or a little more. Is this the fuel filter or something else associated with the vehicle. Thanks in advance.

Major hesitation is usually a sign of a bad fule filter but in your case, since it only happens at high rpms, I'm guessing that isn't the fule filter. Not sure though.

Might need to clean your injectors? Drop in a can of BG 44K or any good fuel injector and give that a try. Maybe other members can give you other hints... hope it's a start though!

Start with the filter, it's relatively cheap. I replace mine once a year (about 30K).
The aux tank on my cruiser is rusty, I changed it once each fillup if it even made it that far. I carried spares in the glovebox. Have since disconnected it.

How do you go about changing the fuel filter? I've always wanted to change it but I never have know how to do it.

The fuel filter is usually located near your gas tank on most 4Runners/Tacomas/Pickups.

I beg to differ, the filter on Tacos are located on the inner portion of the frame on the driver's side.

SundayBBQ:

Not sure what engine you have but try taking a look at the link below and I hope it helps you some.
