Fuel filter replacement

Replaced the fuel filter last night (3.0 V6) and used the 'remove transmission cross member' method'. Easy enough except it was a bear lining the dang cross member up again afterward. (tranny seemed to slide backard making re-install a challenge)

Anyone find an easier way as access is silly tight if you do not remove it ?

David,

I replaced mine a few weeks back without problems. I loosened the fuel lines, removed the FF retaining bracket bolts and finished removing the fuel lines. The filter (with retaining bracket) was removed by fishing it up and over the torsion bar (I think). Installation was the opposite of removal. Not near as bad as I thought it would be.

I need to change mine, but my line looks pretty rusty and i don't want to touch it until i have the time to replace the fuel line....oh the joys of living in the Northeast.....RUST.

im to lazy to change mine as of now has 167k on the stock one so i guess its fine

Most people change them "Every time the engine gets changed."

Here is the trick:

Crow's foot wrenches.

Slip the craftsman crow's foot on the fuel line, then a nice long 3/8ths extension, then whatever you need to break the fuel lines loose. (I used a 1/2 ratchet adapted down.)
This gives you enough room to really put some power to it and break it loose.

Forget about the flare nut wrenches. Too much "give." It felt like I was going to strip it. besides, I couldn't turn it anyway and there is no room to swing a hammer.
