I wish I could help you there... have you talked to any of the service guys at the dealership? Maybe they could help you out some.

Jackamot,
1) Have them double check the part number, the larger the filter, the more surface area = better filtration.
2) It should be mounted on/near the frame frame rail between the gas tank and the engine, at least on most vehicles. You should be able to trace the line all the way back to the gas tank.

Hope this helps!

Allright, I think I've got this one. I have an 89 22re 5spd, so shoul dbe the same. The fuel filter is on the side of the engine block. Left side when standing in front of truck. It is just above the starter, underneath the intake manifold. It is a black cylinder. I have a replacement which is the same size, I would not recommend replacing it with anything different.

My best suggestion to getting at it would be this:

Get your front on jack stands, or at least get your left tire off the ground.

Remove the left tire.

Inside your fender well there is an access panel that you can remove. just above the upper control arm mount. Remove that panel.

This should give you a clear shot of the filter, but it will still be a squeeze.

Good luck

Sounds like they gave you a filter for a carbed model instead of fuel injected.
The EFI fuel filter is quite big and should be something like a $20 part if memory serves.
Sounds like a trip back to the store is in order.
