front guard under bumper?

I have seen a few pictures with 3rd gen 4runners that have like a plated guard that runs underneath the front bumper. I makes the truck look much more tough and aggressive. Does anyone know what this mod is called or how much they are?

I don't have a pic of it handy, but he's probably referring to the skid/brush guard thing on 02 Sport Edition.

Quick google, and this thread shows a picture of it (3rd pic down):

Just guessin'....

Yes it is a "skid plate". It has been known to protect against larger blades of grass.
Those are more for looks. They are a feature on the sport ed. 4Runners but of course will work on all 99-02's. This plate is also found on the tacomas however the bracket is what is different.
The 4Runner kit tends to be very expensive whereas the taco kit can be had for less than $100 and the brackets can be extended to fit the 99-02 4runners.
The tacoma plate kit will fit the 96-98 4runners pretty much perfectly.
