Friend's screwup

Well... One of my friend's was changing the spark plugs on his 95 mustang.. I know I know not a yota but you guys should be able to tell me about this.. He replaced the plugs etc but on the last two he pulled off the little metal connector on the wire came off and stayed on the plug.. he just pulled it off the plug and stuck it back into the boot and used a pair of pliars to push it into the boot. I tried telling me that i didn't think that was good but he didn't seem to want to listen. We got into the mustang and he started it up... It is running much smoother and better than before.. but quieter and i can't notice any acceleration loss. Do i need to try and convince him to buy new wires or what? He seems to think it is fine because it is running smoother, better, and quieter.

If he reinstalled the connector back on the wire right he should not have a problem. We buy plug wires and connecters in bulk and make are own length plug wires and never had a problem but like i said if it done right it OK

I don't think it was done right.. he pretty much just stuck the connector back into the sleeve and pushed it in with a pair of pliers.

He's prolly just lucky right now.If he wants to fix the old wire ,he should slip the boot up the wire, open up the crimped part of the metal conector, then bend the small center part that's inside the wire backwards ,then recrimp the metal conn. over it.and slide the boot back down. Most people don't fix broken wires cause they don't know how and just replace them...if the old I would replace them anyways.

Nope he didn't do that at all.. I'll try and convince him to do it.. i don't think the sleeves come off the plugs though.. but all you have to do is cut the wire back and reattach the connector? i'll try kicking him around a little to get him to do it

Tell him to upgrade to a full Accel set up. 8.8 wires, plugs, cap, rotor, & coil pack. Even the 8.8's will give him more spark but may over time fry the cap & rotor that is OEM. Just my thoughts. Its only a matter of time until the wire slips out of the boot giving him probs down the road. Blue

Just called him.. his sleeves don't move.. he wants to know if he can cut them off around the plug and just have them sitting around the plug.. or how long it will take before something more serious happens with the plugs the way they are now.

The problem we have in the United States is there are enough Fords breaking down daily. Tell him to replace them with cheap wires as it sounds he is cheap or be a rebel and buy Accel's.

just tell him to make his own with 18 gage speaker wire. more than likely he won't listen anyway.

If it's running smoother, better and quieter, he doesn't need to fix it.

Plug wires normally have the center electrode folded back and the metal boot clamped around it all. Sounds like he did fine reattaching the boot to the wire.
