Im looking to go FI on my new 4.0 v6 that comes in the tacomas, turbo perferably. im just looking for others who have or have read about it, want to make sure it will at least hold 6 psi stock. and information would be great.

fyi...
its forced induction, not injection. Induction is air and injection is fuel. Since its such a new motor, good luck. Your either going to have to wait for TRD or do a full custom job. Either way it isn't going to be cheap. (But the S/C for my engine sure will be for me when that new one does eventually come out!)
Good luck!

I've been already thinking about doing this since I found out about the XRunner....
I need to iron out flow rate calculations to select the proper compressor wheel, but we can just follow the cyclone/typhoon (turbo 4.3L) owners selections for compressor wheels and the Grand National's selections as well (3.8L). Several people have already suggested the T04e-60 compressor and I believe it was a Ptrim 76mm turbine with a moderate A/R...
the SMT-6/SMT-7 would definately be in order, with bigger injectors, modded MAF, fuel pump, FPR, intercooler, and the hardest part would be the turbo headers.
I'd avoid the TRD blower like the plague...the more I read about it and learn about FI the less and less I like it....
btw - if the TRD blower can force induct at 8psig with a AIT that's probably approaching 190* after heat soak, I dont see a reason why you cant run 8psig on an intercooled turbo and make a LOT more power.... with lower EGTs and the same temperature range plugs I'd bet...

Its definately the best way for (somewhat) cheap power, but it does add a lot of stress to an engine. I mean think about it.... its cramming air into the engine. Its also the replacement for displacement! Sounds like they were having computer problems with the V8s, I would wait and see what happens with the TRD unit before moving on anything but thats just me.
Edit:
then the question is where to mount it? Front mount? $$ but best gains... You can also consider a vortech supercharger... and an intercooler (optional) If you still want that out of the hole punch. I too am partial to turbos becuase they are not on all the time so a. less stress on them, b. less stress on the engine, c. less stress at the gas pump. But to be quite honest, i'd rather start out with an engine that was designed for it. but again... thats just me I mean, thats why we pay so much for these damn things, we are paying for them to figure out how to keep them running for a long time. Yes, its our job to push the limits but are you willing to be the guy that has to rebuild his motor a couple times a year because you wanted to see if it could handle it? Not I... but, by all means... I will happily follow in your foot steps.

excuse me on the forced injection mistake, im well aware having a blower on my previous tacoma. i just bought an x runner last week, and am hungry for more. its the same motor that has been in the 4 runner for a few years i think, so i fugured someone might know something. i dont really have a problem building a manifold or whatever, but i was curious to know the limits of the fuel system, the 3.4 obviously didnt have what it took, maybe the 4.0 does (in terms of stock fuel systems) i dont want to run anything crazy, just more reliable horsepower. thanks for the direction on the turbo too. i have alot of knowladge about s/c but none with turbos..........thanks

Well,
Your going to be the man here... and going to have to test the waters of the engine. Get a good air/fuel gauge and watch it religously and keep adding boost til you start to lean it out and thats the most boost you can run. Thats another good thing about turbos... you can adjust boost on the fly! man... I miss my old car...
anyway... congrats on the purchase! sorry nobody has taken the plundge with the 4.0 yet. If you are in florida you will be in good hands as there are tons of good import shops down there. Mostly supra oriented but I woulnd't be surprised if one of them would want to be the first to turbo an x-runner!
If you want help locating a shop or anything let me know...
cheers!
Austin
ps, Please please keep us posted on your hunt for boost! Ive been wanting to turbo mine for a while now, but probably won't happen til its not a DD anymore.
