Heres a question for you....
I have my 99 Runner Limited, and the fogs just stopped working the other day. It had snowed, so I figured I had blown a fuse, etc. Nope, fuse is fine, relay flips open and closed, etc. Ok, so I went right to the source (the connector on the fog light itself). And, it has NO GROUND signal. It gets the 12v, but no ground. So, where is the ground for this? And how could that happen? All of my other accessories are working, its just the fogs that aren't. Any idea on where the ground could be broken? I don't want to ghetto it and run a separate ground to each fog, but if thats what I have to do...I'll do it. Any ideas would be great!!

I have the wiring diagram for an 01 and it shows the ground wires from the fog lights joining together and grounding on the left front fender. They join together in a 8 pin grey connector that is part of the main engine wiring harness. That ground point is also used for the front turn signals, parking lights, EFI relay, starter relay and some other stuff, so I would think the main ground is OK. I'm guessing the connector is wet or corroded. If you can't trace the wires back to the connector then it's probably easier to run new grounds.

That's for an 01, so your 99 may be different.

Are your fog lights the OEM Hella Micro DE's like on my '00? If so, check the interior of the lamp assembly for corrosion. Some of the Hella lamps made for Toyota have a history of severe corrosion. If you do have them, it'll be obvious the moment you remove the rear rubber boot exposing the guts of the assembly. I would have expected 1 lamp to go out before the other and not both at the exact same time from corrosion, so perhaps it IS just a wiring problem.

The lamp has some white corrosion, but its not effecting anything...and both lights went out at once. I was thinking maybe a bad relay?? I'm going to dross my fingers and see if I can find a relay at Checkers, and see if that fixes it. Any other ideas??
