I read yesterday in MT that Toyota is going to discontinue the RAV4 (2005) in the States and replace it with a new to be released retro model called the FJ40 (2007). It looks like a modern version of the old LC. This could be interesting....

Look at those tires!

This bad boy will give the H2 a run. The FJ will have a TRD 3.4 supercharged 250HP motor and be based on the current Tacoma chasis.

Those rims look HUGE. I hope they put 15's on it, and give it a little more of a lift. That looks like NO wheel travel!

Yea, the rims are 20s. Toyota is polling visitors to the concept FJ website about whether or not it should become a reality. See my post about it here

I'd buy it if I have the money when it comes out.
Not only does it look badass, but if it comes with the 3.4 supercharged how can I resist?

...unless...

its Front wheel drive with a viscous coupling like the rav4, then it would suck. Hopefully toyota is too wise to degrade it like that. Personally I prefer part time 4wd.

I have heard that the vehicle will be called the FJ Cruiser, still based on the Taco frame. I also have seen somewhere that the vehicle will have a long travel downward motion of like 18" . I am assuming it will be independently suspended. I think on SOR or one of the cruiser sites, they (the R&D team and Toyota) brought in some FJ experienced people for suggestions after this concept was finished. The main concern of those involved were: solid axles F/R with lockers, the ability to remove the top as earlier FJ models and wheel size. It comes with stock 33's on those 20's, but a bunch of people would like to see smaller wheels, including me! I can only hope that it would come with a V8 option. Production vehicles if all is a go is slated for 2005 model year line up. At least this is what I've heard so far. If I am wrong, someone please correct me!
