FIPK replaced by the stock air box

When I purchased my 1998 4Runner, it already had a K&N FIPK installed. It is very noisy, to say the least, and I'd really like to find a used stock airbox that originally came on the truck, but I'm not sure of everything that I'll need to get. Does is all come as one piece, or do I need to make sure to get a couple of things that make up (replace) the FIPK? Thanks guys,

Chris

Call these guys. See if they have a used intake in stock.

Hope this helps.

F.I.P.K. questions

Just out of curiousity, did the FIPK have two inlets for vacuum lines? I did the intake silencer removal mod on a '97 tacoma, and I had to re-route the vacuum lines. If the FIPK has vacuum inlets i need to revert to the old routing, so I need to get some new vacuum lines. I wish I could trade you the FIPK for the stock box. I don't mind the noise, and love having a little extra power.

2wheeler97,

If our units match up, I'm definitely interested in the swap idea. How can we find out if they'll match up, and have you done any mods to the stock box?

My vehicle is a 1998 4Runner Limited 4x4 with the 3.4 liter V6. How about yours?

Well, I will tell you are engines and intake systems match up, but here stands the problem: I live in California. I have also slightly modified the intake box I have ( pulled the silencer off the tube and replaced with an end cap and drilled holes in the front of the box to pull in more air. I need to just get out and by the FIPK for myself. I will tell you one thing, try and find people in your area that are interested in K and N filters. Being the the FIPK will get a little better airflow, and gives that beefy sound that a lot of people like, you can probably find someone that would swap a stock intake with you, you might even get lucky and get a little money out of it. If it is the Gen II from K and N, which I believe is the only one offered for tacoma and 4runner V6's, that intake is worth about $230. Hope this helps, sorry the distance is a little too much to make it worth trying to swap. I couldn't stand to leave my truck not running while waiting for the shipping. Good Luck, hope to get to chat a little more about vehicles some other time.

2wheeler97,

Sounds good to me! Not being able to drive is definitely as issue I didn't think about. I've got a local shop that works strictly on wrecked toyotas, so I should be able to find one soon. Hope you find one. Maybe when I get my stock box back in, I'll put mine up for sale, and then you could purchase it. What do you think about that?

I'll keep that option open, thanks!! I need to have the money to get my windows tinted first, that is my next priority. By the time you are ready to sell, I could be ready for the intake probably.

Thanks Noel! I'll check it out and see if it will fit perfectly in my 1998 4Runner, and if they include the MAF. You don't happen to know that do ya?

Chris,

That airbox will not work with your truck as the MAF is completely different on that truck. It won't work with your ECU even if they included it.

Sorry to rain on your parade.
Dr. Z

PS Did you call Nix 99 like I suggested in the beginning of this thread?

Thanks Dr. Z,

I planned on it tomorrow, because I think you told me on the weekend, if I'm not mistaken. I also have a local shop that may have something, so I'm going to check to see what the price differences are. You must be a damn genious on this stuff. It blows my mind how much you and Gadget and a few other know about all this stuff. How'd you learn so much about all this?

Well, I appreciate the kind words, but I'm far from a genius when it comes to engines. I did go to school for automotive mechanics and I used to turn wrenches for a living. I learn about things that I have a passion for.

Peace.

Here's what I found out. Since I'm going from the FIPK to a stock box that I don't have, here's what I'm buying so I can do the Dr. Z intake silencer removal at the same time. Here's what I need to get:

1996-1998 3.4 Liter
1) Air Cleaner Assembly
12) Hose

1999-2001 3.4 Liter
10) Air Hose #1
11) Air Hose #2
13) Clamp #2

I'm also going to apply Dynamat to the custom metal tube to reduce the resonation within the section of that tube. I would think this is where the majority of the louder sounds are coming from, wouldn't you? I'll apply as much of as is takes to make it where I want it to be, I guess.

Just in case someone on here would like to have a K&N FIPK, Ive got mine for sale in the for sale section of the forum. It will fit a 1996-1998 4Runner with the 3.4 liter.
