First of all, welcome to yotatech. Second, if you do a lot of wheelin, ditch that K&N - it's nothing but trouble.

Sell it on ebay for $45, get an Amsoil for $35, and buy a deckplate for $10. There you go, an instant 5HP.

A search will reveal a ton of info about the K&N vs. Amsoil debates that go on every week here. General consensus is if you do any wheelin at all, get rid of the swiss cheese (aka K&N).

Happy modding!

FIPK SUCKS

Right on Christian! Yeah those FIPK are known to lean out your engine and decrease HP. Welcome to the boards man I am sure you will get plenty of good info and suggestions for your rig here. BTW let me know if you ever need anything for your truck.

damn I wish I would have known of all this before I tossed out 200 bucks...I live it the city and go out on big trail rides a few times a month, would it be logical to keep the k&n on in the city and just switch airboxes with the deckplate mod before i go, it takes me about 20 mins max to change them? or am I not making any sense and should just try and sell it? thanks for the help on this, I'm knew to the off roading world, and I've got alot to learn

Alot of help telling him that the $200 he just spent sucks He asked what to do to not suck water not an opinion of K&N. Anyways Crash they make a sock to go over just the filter for when your wheeling to keep dust and mud out. Keep a mental note that it's there and unless your fording water 4 foot deep you should be okay. Just don't blow through puddles at speed either when on the trail because that forces water up into the engine bay. As far as a lift I am not real familiar with the coilover set up's on Tacos but if you just want to clear some bigger tires body lifts are cheap. Hope this helps you a bit. Good luck with your wheeling.

I dont see how advising someone of a caution is a bad thing.

I guess I missed something.

Just ordered my Drycharger from PerformanceProducts. The key is to get the right part number off the K&N website, then just do a search for it on Perf.Prod. and you should find it.

Regarding potential water trouble, yes, it can happen. Sadly, I've done it once...which caused mis-firing in one of my cylinders. Thanks to WATRD, we fixed it on the trail and I was running fine in no time.

Regarding HP loss...I really don't buy that BS. The MAF and throttle butterfly valve both control air-flow. I don't see why removing an air restriction at the filter level will defeat both of these factory provided devices.

I have noticed no change in HP for in-town driving, however when you're on the highway and in the higher RPMs you do get an increase.

This is the drycharger on a 3.0 V6 with FIPK. You definitely need to use K&N's site to find your application.

With this wrap on it, there is no fear of splashed water getting sucked into the engine. You would have to dunk it to have any issues.

I've HEARD that the FIPK doesn't provide as much of an improvement on the 3.4 as it does on the 3.0, but I have no way to verify this. I've been thoroughly happy with mine - and a long time user of K&N products. This is my 4th vehicle to have a K&N (1st with the FIPK though).

Welcome to the forum!

As you can tell the Amsoil & Deckplate vs. K&N FIPK is one of those things that will forever be debated

Good luck with the search for that dust cover thingy

I am also a long time user of K&N, and it's about the only choice for 2nd gens..

I just learned that you can't use the FIPK on the 2nd gen if you have a body lift.

Thought that was worth sharing.

I'd like to do the airbox mod, but I'd rather hack up a spare airbox rather than mine, so I can return it to stock if necessary.

There is a class action lawsuit underway over these intakes. I don't know why or for what and I don't have one and I don't have an opinion either way. Just Info.
