Finally painted my chrome bumper

I've been reading every thread i could find on how to paint my chrome rear bumper and this weekend i finally did it. If anyone decides to do it, i think its really worth it. I've been planning on getting rid of the chrome forever and now my runner is all black. I'm impressed with how it came out and it was way worth it.

Heres some pics of before, during, and after.

First you gotta take the bumper off. I started by sanding the hell out of the chrome bumper with a palm sander and 80 grit sand paper. Once all the chrome was gone I used 3 cans of primer and then sanded again with 400 grit wet/dry sand paper. Then I used 2 cans of black paint. And then to finish it off and give it the nice shine i used 3 cans of clear top coat. In the end it came out really good. My parents thought it was gonna look bad but they were impressed with the finished product. It came out way good.

I chopped the tip off today, I had never moved it up from the body lift so thats y it chills so low. I think i'm gonna paint the wheels next weekend, i'm just trying to figure out what kind of paint i should use and whether or not I should leave the beadlock chrome. I think it will end up pretty nice

For those of you going the black route, please take note: Be sure to wear proper respiration when sanding chrome!

There is some nasty stuff in there. And I am not talking about a "comfort mask," I am talking about a full blown organic vapor mask with replaceable cartridges! Take care of yourself first.

You really do not need to remove all the chrome like Outlaw did. You can just rough up the surface and use a good primer. It will be fine. I have been running mine for one year with no problems.

Black rules!

I used duplicolor sandable primer and dupli color black auto paint and yes i used clear coat.

96 runner did your paint come off of your wheels at all after you painted it, I'm kinda worried about the paint coming off of my wheels if do it.

Every now and then I get a nick or two. I just bust out the rattle can and touch it up. You can't even tell. My biggest problem has been the lugs, but those too can be touched up.

Personally, I would just go with anodized black lugs or leave them chrome.

As for the wheels, they have held up great!
