finally installing lift on 4runner need wheel tire advice
I'm getting tired of my lift that has been sitting in the box it was shipped in two years ago. it's a Revtech 3inch spacer lift. I'm going to finally put it on. My question pertaines to the wheel/tire setup. I have a 2002 LTD with the big fender flares. I hate the way the truck looks sucked up with the tires being under the big flares. I'd rather keep the stock wheels if I can but I'd like to know what I can run on them and be safe. Truck is 90% street and sees mainly snow and some mud. What I'd like idealy is to have a tire that I can run on the stock wheel and have it as wide as possible. What are you guys running or what other solutions do I have? Thanks.

i think most would agree that 285 is the widest you should go on the stock 7" rims. to get a wider stance, you could remove the flares, go with new wheels with less backspacing when you can afford it or run spacers(not really recommended). i guess 285's with spacers could be an option since youre 90% street, but if you do decide to go with some, be sure to get quality ones, not some cheap-o knock offs.

I have 285's on my stock wheels and they're fine. I get a little rubbing at full lock. If you're 90% on the street, I'd run an all-terrain, but those won't be really great in the mud.

I'm looking at the BFG AT as my AT tire, I've always had good luck with those. The mud I get into is usually just a mudy trail I don't do any bogging and a real mud tire isn't too great for snow. I'm also loking at the Goodyear MT tire for a more trail biased tire????

I started my lift w/ Revtec spacer lift and 285's. They rubbed alot and it rode very rough. Your head would almost hit the roof if you pulled into a driveway to fast. I did not like it that much.

Crap that is what I have already. I think I'm going to try it out with the stock wheels and see how I like it. I may switch to springs later. I had a rear spring lift on my gen2 runner and cranked the front bars up to level it out and I really liked the solid feel of the ride.

I have the Daystar 2.5 inch lift with 285 75 16 BFG AT's 16X8 wheels and I trimmed the very inside corner of the running board. it actually was the plastic inner fender it was catching. About an inch, and it didnt hit anymore. The dremmel with a cutoff wheel did it. Not bad! If I really nail something it'll hit , but under normal use it doesn't.

I have the Revtek 3" leveling kit. I went from a 265x70x16 A/t (forget brand) to a 285X75X16 Nitto Terra Grappler A/T. Lift allowed the 285s with little rubbing on front, inside fender--which was easily resolved with very minimal trimming. However, I wanted the look of a lift...but the 285s seem to fill all the space in the wheel well, making the lift less noticeable. I'm probably going back to 265 Nitto A/Ts to put more space back in the wheel well, showing off the lift and hopefully returning some of my lost MPG. Great prices at discounttiredirect.com and Discount Tire's Ebay store. (Free shipping/Handleing/no state taxes in most cases.) I got my 10-ply 285s in the Discount Tire store, with 40k warranty, for $119 each (including install). I like the look--looks as aggresive as many MT's. Works for me.
