Finally getting a rear tire carrier

Well I bought a rear tire carrier from a guy on the coast. I didnt want to have to buy the entire tailgate for $500 and the guy I am buying it from will sell the carrier with hardware for $100+S&H. I cant wait to get my 35 off the roof rack. My rig handles so much better with no load up top. A question I have is have any of you upgraded to the rear tire carrier when your rig came from the factory with out it? If so how did you modify everything to fit? Will my 35" tire & 10" wide PC rock crawler with 3 3/4" BS mount right up? Thanks, Blue

Not sure about how the meat fits, but you definitely have to reinforce the metal with backing plates where you mount that thing. If not, you'll be playing "chase the spare".

I picked up the rear gate and tire carrier off a 90 in the local yard along with both driverside doors and the hood for a buck and a half ($150.00). The yard owner hates imports and loves to see them leave as soon as possible. But by looking at the factory reinforcement I'd plan on beefing up even an exsisting one. Its only a trapazoid of double thickness sheet metal tacked in at four points with a nut captured in the outer face. The one I pulled the gate from had the lower reinforcement broken loose from the welds.
