Feedback wanted on Dunlops on 2004 Sport Editions.
Can you share some real life feedback on the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 tires that came on the 2004 Sport Editions? The comment section on the Tire Rack website really tears this tire down, but I wanted to get some more info on how they really worked in the rain and snow.

Not sure about the grandtreks but the Dunflops I had on my Taco sucked. Three out of four were out of round and impossible to balance. I had to dump the whole set with only 16k miles on them. I have the Duelers now and I am much happier.

The Dunlops absolutely suck! They are horrible in wet weather and snow conditions. I had major vibration from them at 22K. Just recently dumped them for Michelin LTX M/S. It was the best $550 I've spent recently!

The standard X-REAS will make you think you're driving a sport sedan until the AT-20's suddenly lose grip and the rear end rotates. Not a comforting feeling with all that mass generating enough momentum and oversteer to overwhelm VSC. 38 psi all around helps.

I have 31k on the dunlops, and they don't seem to be giving me any problems. This is my first suv, and these are the only tires I have had. They are good in rain, and were great last winter in snow. Maybe they will be bad this winter with some wear on them? I am paranoid/expecting things to go wrong since all I hear about them is bad... What exactly would indicate they are out of round or out of balance? Thanks

I had those dunlops on my 2003 4R, they are quiet. But they are difficult to balance and their grip on dry pavement is not too good. I went to Revo A/T and also one size up (265/70/17) with a small lift. My noise wnet up a bit and my gas mileage wnet down by 2 MPG or so, but no more vibribations of any kind at any speed and the grip improved quite a bit.

I know this is a different tire, but I had Dunlop Radial Rover RVs on my truck and they were terrible. The original owner had them put on new just before I purchased it. Every one of them were out of round. I even had one replaced before I came to my senses. They are currently sitting on my balcony collecting dust. No more Dunlops for me.
I swapped to Michelin LTX M/Ss and I cannot be happier.

The Dunlop AT20's will not hold up if you do any real off roading. I blew one with only 7k on it. Took em off and put on Revo's. In fact I have two fairly new AT20's sitting around for anyone who would want to come and get'em

I thought they were absolutely disappointing and horrible.
I get more traction in the rain and more control with my MTRs than with the Dunflops. If the Michelin Cross Terrain is available (as they are at most dealerships), those are FAR better tires.

Thanks for the replies. They seem to mirror the Tire Rack comments.
All I need to do now is decide between the Michelin Cross Terrain or the Bridgestone Revo.

REVOS are better for on and off road ... the Michelins are awesome tires, but if you plan on doing any type of off roading or if you have to drive much in the snow, go with the REVOS - they are fantastic all-terrain tires.

Dunflops are an abysmal tire. I had my first flat at 400 kilometers after running over a patch of spilled gravel on the highway. The puncture was near the edge of the tire, and un-repairable. Make sure your replacement tires are LTs as opposed to Ps that come as original equipment. I'm partial to BFGs in any flavour that suits your purposes.

I agree dunlops aren't the greatest by any means but you can get a flat with any tire. I had a Pirelli Scorpion AT blow out on me on the freeway, had a big chunk of metal in the MTR... it happens.

My runner came with the dunlops on it and the dealer replaced them with less than 200 miles on them. Could not get them to balance. They put the ct's on them and it was a big improvement great in dry and wet but not as good in the snow as I would have liked. Bfg's or Revos for me the next time around.
