Fan Pulley Broken ?
just got truck back from dealer. had timing belt and water pump replaced. they told me the " fan pulley bracket " was bad and was ready to quit working. I needed to replace it very soon. Also it was a common repair on v-6
motors. they always go bad. I have had 5 toyota trucks and never had this problem. has anyone ever had this problem or heard of this happening ? at
$ 700. for the price of this bracket, I'm investigating before I jump too deep.
any help is extremely appreciated. THANKS

Same here on that "bearing plate" they call it.It would be $850 installed or $650 for the part alone.I'm considering an electric fan and a direct fan belt from the crank to the alternator and leave the power steering disconnected.I should look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in no time if I go this route.

Thats the part that left me stranded in Atlanta this past October. No warning. You do want to do something about it though. Either lube it some way or find the part in a salvage yard or spring for the new one. I had about 140K miles on mine when it let go. I asked the question on here afterward and was told it is a common issue.

I just bypassed the failed bearing on the pulley and installed an electric fan.I ran a belt directly from the crank to the alternator and will connect the power steering when I have time.I couldn't bring myself to pay $650 for that bearing assembly.

Welcome to the stealership. I took my runner in to get a few minor things done before I went on a long trip and ..........Excuse me sir but your head gasket it almost gone? :wtf: I was like,..........ahh no, just do what I told you to do. My runner was running like a champ. I got about 3 mile away from the stealership and....white smoke and . No trip and a week later I got it back. Runs like crap...I learned alot that day. :pat:

That piece is a major bastard I've discovered I just bought my '90 runner from a friend who replaced that bracket no more than four weeks ago. I hear a strange noise coming from the fan lookup there and that bracket snapped in 3 places :wtf: So I talked to a dealer who told me thats the most overpriced part that toyota sells . To cut this short I found one from a recycler for $150 and just finished replacing it a few minutes ago runs like a champ again

3VZE 4Runner Fan Idler Bracket
Mine is going bad now. They wanted the $650 for the part and $300 for labor
at the repair shop nearby. I just bought an OEM one for a tenth of that at a recycler and I'm going to install shortly. Anything I should be aware or any tips for the replacement? Any special tools? Thanks in advance.
By the way I found an aftermarket source for this part, brand new for $139 at this location (1aaAuto).

If I knew about the aftermarket bracket before,I probably would have gotten one.Instead, I went with the electric fan and have the alternator and power steering hooked up now.It feels like I have a little more power now, too.Good luck with yours.

This on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33604
They also sell some aftermarket looking ones on ebay for like $80. The guy selling the used one says his friend bought one and broke it. Anyone any experience with these ebay ones?
