Fair Price for factory 4.88's (IFS front, 8" Rear) Open?
Just testing the waters.
I have the 4.88 3rds out of my 93 4Runner and it looks like time to liquidate some stuff. I had visions of possibly having issues with the 5.29's, so I wanted to hold on to the 4.88 3rds for a bit. Now they are just in the way.
The front includes the functioning ADD and stub shafts.
These are completely setup and ready to drop into your rig. No issues ever. I towed an empty trailer once with this rig and pulled a couple of bushes out about 50K miles ago...
Rig had roughly 130K on it when they were pulled.
Any thoughts? I will likely sell locally, but need to set a fair price.

Where were you 3 months ago! I called many junk yard and a few Toyota specific yards in southeast PA and was quoted $425 to $550. I bought new stuff and made out just a little cheaper when all said and done. Good luck.

For V-6 third in the rear with the ABS port, $200 maybe lower.
For the front, $150 maybe lower.
I sold a stock 4.56 rear with a True Trac for $450 FWIW.
You have a desirable ratio, but they are open diffs. Hope that helps.

OK, so the range is $300-350 up to $425-550 for the factory 4.88 third and front pig.
How about for a 4 cyl 4.10 3rd out of an 85 front axle?

Yeah, I'd say $450 at the high end. Likely shoot the front a little low and the rear a little high.
As for the 4 cyl diff, I hope to sell mine locally for 50 bucks, that is pretty standard since they are a dime a dozen.

Too bad you qouted me or I could have changed it.
I suppose what I mean is that was what I would pay and consider it a good deal. I would add 50 bucks to the rear to make it a nice round number. As for the front, you couldn't give me IFS stuff anymore.

Also keep in mind this is a factory 4.88 and not an aftermarket 4.88 setup. You have very limited locker options for that rear diff.
4cly diffs are more or less worthless. Everyone wants the V6 or the FZJ-80 hi-pinion.

It's not too bad, you can still put in a ARB or a detroit in there. Lunch box lockers are iffy.

Aftermarket gears won't fit though.

scroll to the bottom of this link.... http://zukaz.tripod.com/josh.htm ....I did do some measuring and it looks like the pinion itself is offset about .275" closer to the ring gear. This explains why the supplied ring/pinion(488) won''t work on anything else.....the ring gear is extra thin and the after-market ones don't accommidate this unique offset. I don't think there is anything different about the carrier offset itself. That said, I think the Detroit SoftLocker will fit just fine. If you go the lunchbox route, you may have to touch up the inside for clearance like I did.
