Expired warranty problem? please read
Ok I bought my 4runner used last August and they gave my the basic 3 month or 3,000 mile warranty. They fixed some things for me before I got it. The A/C wasnt cold so the rifilled it BUT I specifically asked them to check for leaks in the sysem and they said that they did and it was fine. Well one month later I drivin my 3000 miles and the warranty was up the A/C stopped being cold again. But it was starting to get cold so I put it off but now with summer coming up I will need A/C. Do you think if I go in to the dealership and say "you guys told me there was no leak and obviously there is." will they fix it. Also if they say no should I e-mail Toyota and bitch till it gets fixed? Whats their E-mail address. Anybody let me know problems that you have had fixed any other situations like this! Thanks

How many miles are you over your warranty? If you have a good relationship with your dealership and approach them nicely, they might fix it for you. I know some dealerships will give you a hard time if it's 1 mile over your warranty.
From my understanding the a/c system is a closed system and if it needs to be re-charged, then there is a leak. I think they should fix it under warranty and hopefully they won't give you too much trouble with it.

Since you already complained about the problem once and they said there wasn't one, then they should fix it. Complain to the service manager if the write up guy doesn't help you. And make sure you have the original write up for the problem.

You might find it will be difficult for someone to work on your AC. R-12, the refrigerant inside, is not longer manufactured in the US and 1# of it may run as high as $40 in places. Converting the system to 134A after fixing the leaks may be a better alternatine. It may require changing compressors and other parts.

What year did they change and does anyone think it would be possible to pull the parts out of a newer 4runner and put them in mine?
