Exhaust: need some HUGE help getting through emissions!

Well, midas did my 2 1/4" exhaust about a year and a half ago. Now its time to get the emissions done on the truck and the down turn at the end of the exhaust is too close to the axle and they can't hook up the machine.

The exhaust exits right before the axle. I've talked to midas and they said they'll cover the cost of materials, but I have to pay for the labor which is $60. I am trying to sell the truck, and want to put in as little money to get it there as possible, so that's out. I tried flexible exhaust piping, but the only way to get that to work was running it under the axle. Emissions people said no go to that one (they don't want it to fall into the rollers). Next I tried heater ducting (the flexible type. That burned out (huge holes) after about 5 minutes of driving to the emissions place. I looked at fuel filler hose, but its not flexible enough.

What else can I do?!!!! I am almost debating just getting the exhaust modified, but there's got to be a cheap easy way. What are some ideas from you guys?

Any colorado guys have their stock exhaust system (86-89)that I can borrow for a day? Maybe parting out a truck or something?

I already lost one buyer because of this emissions ordeal, and I have another two dozen in the wings, but I want to get this passed before telling them to come look at it.

PLEASE!!! I need ideas here!

Why would you have to route the flexible exhaust tube under the axle?

The dowturn ends right before the axle, and the flexible pipe doesn't bend enough to get it above the axle.

I can't chop the downturn off because the hangers are attached to it halfway up and it is welded to the muffler (so it starts turning down right after the exit of the muffler), and they still wouldn't be able to reach the exhaust with the pipe they use.

Here's a picture

To be really ghetto, I would JB-weld on 3 90deg elbows while off-angling it and run the flex pipe back.
