Question engine won't start - help!

Just finished replacing the headgasket on our 93 22RE. We had decided to do this after the truck ran slightly hot, and all indications were the gasket was blown. Once into the engine, it appeared the only problem we had was on the intake gasket, not the head gasket, but replaced anyway (since we were already there!). However, the truck was running fine at the time! Relatively smooth idle, not smoking, knocking, pinging or anything that appeared life threatening.

Now can't get truck started. Have checked timing, electrical connections, fuel, vacuum line, etc. Engine turns well, appears to have good compression, etc. Any other suggestions?

are you 180 degrees out of timing? in other words did you maybe put the distributor back in 180 degrees backward? check for spark + fuel + compression

Check your fuses. You may have blown one when you reconnected the battery.

Checked the fuses.....they're o.k. Have checked valve adjustment to make sure they weren't too tight. Verified electrical connections on the intake. Still confused!

Ok... time to start all over and begin rechecking. All it takes is spark, fuel, air and all need to be at the right time. So start by checking spark...then timing, then fuel...etc. Tedious, but I usually find my problems when i go back through everything systematically.

Like said above recheck everything, it's easy to miss a ground or knock one off. Check the afm too if you unplgged it. You can also pull the ecu fuse and reset it... pull it for about 5 minutes and re insert it. You got the timing right? 1 3 4 2 off the dist. cap?

Thanks for all the good suggestions. While we had already checked for fire on the plugs, apparently the plugs had fouled during a backfire. Replaced the plugs, it works fine.

Thanks all!
