Engine Trouble

Hey everyone, as of two days ago the idle on my 1999 4runner v6 has been rough. It has just over 110,000 miles and has never had a problem. I just recently moved up to Chico State and had the whole thing checked out and came out clean. When I start the engine it shakes and when the car is moving my exhaust sounds different. It is not the best description of the problem but I would rather get your advice and fix it myself if possible rather than paying all that money (college student) to get it professionally done.

Did you accidently put ethanol in it? They sell that stuff all over the valley. If not, check the spark plug wires, pull them off, and check the ends for residue. Also, check the plugs them selves(replace if necessary) check all vacuum lines, and hoses. Check and make sure every thing is tight. All that should take you no longer than 30 minutes MAX. Also, make sure your coil wires are tight(if this applies to your motor)

If you have significant engine missing you should have set a code...is your check engine light on? First thing I would do is check for codes...if you don't have a scanner, go to Auto Zone - they'll do it for free....

I agree with stormin94, check the wires and plugs, if its been a while just change them out. How long has it been since wires and plugs been changed anyways?

Cleaning the MAF wont also hurt, doesnt sound like that would be the problem, but may help.

Another vote for plugs and/or wires. Could be that you have a bad plug that's causing your truck to run a cylinder down.

Triple vote for the "plugs". however, sight unseen, the wires should still be good...Plugs are cheap, try them 1st....
