Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help out at all. I've got an 88 reg cab v6 4x4 that i just bought & i was told it had a blown head gasket. I also have an 84 x-cab w/ a four-banger. My main question is will a 4 banger bolt upto the v6 tranny if i yank out the motor in the 88. I would just run the 84 solid axle truck but the frame rails are rusted out and wouldn't pass inspection and the 4 banger is more familiar to me

Sounds like you have some work ahead of you. The motor mounts, tranny, and transfercase are all different and won't interchange not to mention the wiring. I'm not positive on overall length of the drivetrain either, but I would suspect the drivelines may not swap out either.
You could swap it all out and use the axle from the '84 to do an solid axle swap on the other one. All you need is a welder and a whole lot of time.
