Engine swap, mods, cross country trip...
Now that I have some $$ flowing in, and spring is on its way, I have a couple questions. I want to have Pepe (my red '90 4runner) ready for some action this summer. I plan on driving to california (from PA), flying to hawaii for a little 2 month vacation, then driving back to PA (from cali, not hawaii) at the end of the summer, camping and chilling as I go. So, this spring I am planning some major work. I think I've decided on a chevy 4.8L vortec swap. I know it's a chevy, but I need something relatively bolt-in, that I can keep 4wd with, and makes more power than a 3.4L. The only other options I see are a s/c 3.4 (can't afford it) or a supra swap (can't do it myself). When I swap the engine I am also going to swap in a toyota 5 spd as well. While all that is going on, I plan to take care of a few other things. I'm going to do a manual hub conversion, 1" body lift, crank the t-bars around 2 inches, get some HD 2" lift coils for the back (to cure sag), add a set of 33" dueler mt/rs + wheels, strip the interior, soundproof it (for car audio) then rhino line (or whatever) it, install my stereo more "professionally", install swaybar discos, hopefully upgrade the front brakes, grind the rust off the wheelwells + finish them with fiberglass, but slightly larger than stock, tint 5 of the windows, cover the seats, dump the carpets, fix junk (power window) remove the a/c (it needs converted, and I'd rather save the weight and leave the windwos down), install a cb/antenna, and a couple odds and ends like that. Yes, it is quite a list hehe, but I've been saving up my $$$ and planning it out for quite some time. Oh, and I forgot, the running boards have to go. Hopefully I can do the engine swap over spring break, and the rest of the stuff as my time on weekends allows. I hope to have everything done before summer, so I can hit the road!!! Peace.

Welcome to the Forum!
Looks like you got your work cut out for you, but it should be very satisfying to pull it all off doing it yourself. Good Luck!
Be sure you check out the search feature of the site, it works quite well, and there is a ton of good inf on here.
Cheers!

It seems like that would be your cheapest option. Good luck with the engine swap if you go that route.
