Engine Swap
Ok, I have an 88' 4Runner with the 3.0. I would like to swap engines for more power. What is the easiest engine swap that will give me more power and great dependability.
Thanks

No engine swap is easy. The 3.0 is not a fun engine to do a swap in, either. If you are willing to shell out the dough, a chevy 4.3 or Ford 5.0 swap might be the easiest if you aren't too mechanically inclined (I say this because you can buy most of the parts, not because it's actually easy to do) But then, you sacrifice Toyota drivetrain reliability for Ford/Chevy power. Gas mileage isn't supposed to be that hot, although I don't see how it could be ANY worse. If you have a 5 speed, the easiest swap is probably the 7MGE. They are good for around 160hp-170hp stock, but they would provide better gas mileage. They can also be more easily modified to produce 180-190hp than the stock 3.0.
Your other option is the 3.4L from 3rd gen 4runners. If you have a 5spd I BELIEVE you just need a T100 oil pan, engine mounts from a 3rd gen (I Think?) the ECU and harness. Be prepared to pay 4k for the engine, they are exspensive! The 7MGE goes for around $600. That's like $900 shipped to your door, with around 40k miles. The 7MGE is a good engine, it's a Toyota after all.
Also, for most swaps, be ready to do a bodylift. Some of them require a 2" bodylift, which might mean you have to do other modifications to your drivetrain as well.
So......there is no such thing as an easy swap! If you can't do it yourself, you should just focus on putting the money into the 3.0. Get a tune up, get exhaust, do the intake mods, look at a throttle body, yeah, tbs are $350, but if you're talking about an engine swap, they start to look like a bargain. You can also get cams from DOA and headers from several companies.
If you really want power, get the 7M-GTE, but be prepared to some custom work along the lines of intercooler piping and so forth. They are good for 230+hp stock, more with simple mods.

I hear alot about the SUpra engine swap. If I did it, I would prolly do a N/A engine. How hard of a swap is this?
How hard is a swap of the naturally aspirated compared to a turbo swap?
On ebay, I found a Tundra V8 that went for $600! That would be an awesome swap! But do you think it would fit?

It would physically fit in the engine bay, but the question is whether it would bolt up to or be adaptable to the transmission , engine mounts, that sort of thing.
The N/A supra swap is basically the same as the turbo swap, the only difference being you would not need to have intercooler pipes fabricated. The engines are otherwise identical externally.
