Engine questions for the 3.0

I have a few questions here, I have a 90 4 runner 3.0, I put 31's on it and it came stock with the 225/70's. I noticed the milage difference but that don't bother me to much. I did notice that I need to rev up the motor alot more to get things rolling of the start. Is this normal? I know this motor ain't known for it tire screeching but its pretty bad when you need to go to 2000rpm's to get your truck to move.
I was also wondering if anyone else had this problem to: My truck sputters when I shut it off? Like the truck shakes a bit after I shut down. Is this normal?
Do I need to change something to fix these? Help me out here its kinda annoying.

2k might be a little bit high to rev it but I don't think its much to worry about, just depends on the serverity of the hill you're trying to go up and how much you slip the clutch maybe a little more or a little less. I'ev never had my truck sputter after shutting it off but the truck does shake a bit, I think its normal its done it ever since I got the truck but has been worsened serverly by missing on one cylinder (makes it run really lumpy so it shakes alot when driving and stuff to) If it sputters it may be diesiling (sp?), burning off extra fuel thats in the intake, heads etc. as far as I know it shouldn't do that because the injectors are off as soon as the power is off, may just be dumping extra fuel in during running? I dunno hopefully that helps I'm sure someone else will chime in here

yeah, more RPM to get going is normal because you changed your effective final drive ratio. Re-gear your diffs to get things back to normal. plan ahead on the gearing so you don't ahve to do it 2x. I went from 4.10 to 4.88's With the 4.88's I ran 33s and 35's. Truck was OK with 4.10's and the 31 inch tires.
I'm on my way to 5.29s. This will fit my 35's better and let me go to 37's (maybe) in the future.

As far as the run-on. That isn't nornmal on the 3.0 possible classic cause is hot spots (glowing carbon) in the cylinder/on the head but I kinda doubt that. I'm going to guess something like a leaking/hung fuel injector. Dump a bottle of chevron techron (or whatever you like best, I won't argue with anyone, but the ol' chevron has worked well for me for YEARS.) in the tank and see if it helps. It just might solve it.

Of course revving that high and slipping the clutch is not conducive to long clutch life. Probably ought to regear at some point. I had the TRD clutch and heavier flywheel installed into mine which helped takeoffs considerably.

Thanks for the input, I just changed the fuel filter and plugs a couple months ago and I've been using the fuel injector claner every 3rd tank for a few months. I'm thinking maybe I didn't gap one or more of the plugs right? Would that be something that would cause this?

i did the same with my 3.slow.. upped it to 31s from p225s.. and on flat i really dont have to rev it up to get it to go, but i do have to be quick with the gas as the clutch comes out or it stalls very easy..(impossible to not bog or be jerky with takeoffs) doesn't help that i think theres something wrong with my master cylinder, clutch or pedal assembly.. as there is ALOT of travel (4+ inches) before it engages..

as for run on, i generally get about a 10th of a second... more promenant on short drives
