yeh, u can use the engine degreaser function at those wash bay things. spray down ur engine. just avoid hitting the electrical and the intake directly. the electrical can get wet, but just dont blast it. it should be fine. we cleaned my friends 80p/u w 20R at the local wash place the other week.

it works ok though. id recommend something like CD2. theres lots of reviews on the forum about it. seems to work great. i have yet to try it.

Try this first... go to Walmart and get some of that Orange degreaser or some Simple Green. Go home and cover up the alternator, distributor cap, and ignition coil and spray the stuff everywhere you can. Go crazy with it. Use the whole bottle even. Let it soak for a few mins then rinse it off with a hose. Apply again if needed.

ok i know where the alt, and distributor cap are, but where is the ignition coil? Is it that box that has a wire that runs to the center of the distributor cap?

Thanks!

That's the one. I didn't bother covering it up b/c I didn't spray anything over in that area and I kept the hose from hitting it too much.

Hmm, I just may try this Chris ... Although, I had my 4Runner detailed about a month and a half ago, and the steam engine clean has held up pretty good... but I may use this idea do clean it all off before I use the CD2. Thanks for the tip! Peace.
