Hey everyone,

Before I ask this, I have searched and read everything I can find on the installation of the "taurus fan". Anyone that has done this on a 3rd gen, I would greatly appreciate any help!

I have the fan and will be installing it into a 3.4L 1997 4Runner. My question is, what fixed fan controller (temp) do I need to get?

There has been mention in some threads of changing thermostats as well, but I'm going to go with my stock one at least for now. I don't know what my stock one is rated at though in the 3rd gens? Thus I'm confused on what fixed controller to buy since I'm not sure what "stock" thermo is rated at?

Also, on the 3rd gens, where do I tap into the AC circuit to turn the fan on when the AC is on?

Sorry if my questions are basic! I must be a blockhead, but I'm going today to buy the pieces and parts needed and just wanted some clarification.

Sorry if my questions are confusing. After searching and reading everything I can find on thermostats and fan controllers, I think I'm getting there!

My truck has a 193F thermostat (I'm pretty sure, please correct me if I'm wrong) so I guess what I'm asking is,

Do I get a fixed fan controller that turns it on at 193-195 or do I need it larger; say 200 or something?

I was thinking of getting the fan controller at the same temp as the thermostat if that makes sense. Please let me know if anyone can clear this up for me.

That's how I have my adjustable set up, per the instructions. But I'm thinking of changing that because everybody says their fans turn off most of the time, but mine almost never does.

There is a small black wire that runs from your compressor up behind the timing belt cover. This is the wire you want to tap into.

You should ask Chris (Ravencr) about his rig. I know that he was going to install the Taurus fan into his 3.4 V6 4Runner. I don't think that it would be too different than my 3.0 V6 except that your radiators are a lot bigger though thinner.

Hey Chris B. I dont think there is a 195 fixed thermo controller. I think they only make the 180. You could use the 180, but I think you would have a hard time getting the fan to shut off as the engine is running hotter most of the time becuase of the higher temp thermostat. So I would prolly change the thermostat to a 180 and go with the fixed controller. You could buy the adjustable one but its a PIA getting it to work properly (shutting off while going down the road)

p.s. Robinhood, those instructions suck. Try this if you want to try to get your fan to shut off while driving. Do a few minutes of highway type driving then pull off and stop and adjust the controller till the fan shuts off. I had to do this about 3 times and finally I think Ive got it workin correctly. We'll have to wait and c when its gets HOT again out but I think it'll be good to go. Good Luck

On my truck I used the 185* fixed temperature fan controller and a 180* thermostat. The part numbers are listed in my writeup in the above link.
