I think you will have to install an O2 sensor by the catalitic converter for it to work, but I'm not 100% sure on this. I just read something on this, but I can't remember all the details. Sorry!

Hey Duke,
Gadget mentions installing the EGT gauge into his headers on his site, but he does not have a write-up per se. You might want to ask him about it. You know, once you get the BR-2, you can monitor your O2 Sensor Voltage and tune so that your O2 Voltage is between .83-.85V which is pretty good for power.

PS Did it show up yet?

Add a 02 sensor for a EGT? nope, sorry...maybe your thinking about a tuning air/fuel meter? EGT is just probed into the exhaust, as close to the head as possible. I know some of the supra guys run them in the downpipe, which would be equivilant to running them after the manifold. My eclipse has it mounted in the collector of the manifold..but you get better results running in the runner of a single cyl., I guess its more accurate.

Regarding the BR2, it is due for delivery tomorrow..you got me all excited again Galen  , I will get to play with the BR2 tomorrow since I will be telecommuting...thank god for wireless technology, I can be in the garage hooking up the laptop w/ BR2 interface and checking my e-mail from work at the same time through VPN
Again, if anybody has seen a write-up for the EGT gauge installation..need help

Installing an EGT is really easy.
I have the Autometer Phantom EGT. It came with a probe with two mounting options (weld in the bung or use a clamp). Each method requires you to drill 1/4 hole into the exhaust manifold or as close as possible. I went with the clamp method and the steps are pretty much:
1. drill hole
2. mount probe about 1/2 way into opening and secure with included clamp.
3. run the probe wire through the firewall and into the cabin
4. wire the red/black leads from the probe to the gauge
5. hook up the ground and power wire to a switched +12
6. hook up the ground and power for the illumination (if your gauge has it)
Maybe I'll go take some pics this weekend

hey i was also trying to install the EGT gauge on my truck...96 v6...where do you drill hole? i have the trucks air intake off an waiting....here is a pic of 2 possible locations that im confused on...one is in the collector.
i started drilling but stopped thinking it was too close...the second is through the right wheel well....the autometer instructions confused me...

I would install it near the factory O2 sensor location, maybe a bit upstream from it. Too near the collectors and you'll have artificially high temperature readings. Too far away and they'll be too low.

You need to read the instructions that come with the probe. That will tell you how close to the exhaust port it needs to be. Then try to find a spot as close to that recommendation as you can and install it.
Remember the furthur you are away from the port the more error there will be and you can be as much as 200* or even more if you put it in the down pipe or collector.

This is what confuses me
"drill 1/4 inch diameter hole (got that) about 6" down from the junction of the exhaust pipe to manifold junction"
i think that means the pipe on the left of my pic there...where it goes down..the junction is the piece that connects to collector that connects tot he down pipe.
tell me if im right and ill go install it right away...thanks guys!
there will be a write up on this for eveyone else once i get it done.

For anyone who installed an EGT probe in the TRD Headers...which cylinder(s) did you choose to put the probe in, or does it matter?
How far from the engine did you put the probe?
Thanks,
Ken
