ECT button manual trans

Hi all

Trying to get back into the Toyota game after selling my 89. I found a 99 4R SR5 4x4 5vz manual. Nice truck but one weird thing: It has an ECT button on the dash above the HVAC controls. I pushed it and I didnt see any lights come on. Has this truck been swapped to a manual? The owner didnt have any info on it. Are there any telltale signs of a manual conversion? No CELs or anything.

Edit: clutch master looked fairly new and the fluid was crystal clear.

Thanks

u can also look at the bolts that hold the brackets and pedals in, does the lines that go to the slave look new? or ran my the manufacturer? if they did the 5 speed swap i dont see it being a bad thing, after all i did it to my rig.

not too bad of a looking rig, it might change the fuel and timing a little or then needed something to fill a open spot and thats what they came up with and it might not even be hooked up.

Thanks! Theres been some body work but it came with eight years of maintenance receipts so I was happy with that. Its got the rear e-locker too which pretty much sold it for me.

The ECT button is backlit so the harness is hooked up. Ill dive in this weekend and see where it leads.

http://m.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=43660&page=2

That is to put a 99+ bezel in but mine is a 99. Am i missing something? That does look like my bezel.

Maybe your original bezel was broken somehow, so they swapped it out with another one?

I'd do a voltage check on the ECT terminal coming out of your cruise control ECU. ALLDATAdiy says that it should be between 8-14v.

Or someone wanted another switch for something.

My wife's '96 has a few 4Runner switches in it that aren't original equipment. Running lights, auto-antenna turn off (for playing CD's), stuff like that. Random switches from the pick-n-pull look better and fir properly.

Oh and *high-five* to the OP for the 5-spd e-locker. I had to look for a long while to find mine. '99 Highlander 5-spd e-locker.

Yours looks like a Higlander package too, SR5 with body colored bumpers and a snort-hood. Good stuff.

Mine's green and has the no-running board flares.

Thanks for all the insight everyone. I installed my stereo today and found that the button is definitely plugged in. The po must have changed the bezel or clock at some point. When I was putting it back together I plugged the harness into the back of the ETC button and noticed the clock and rear defrost werent working. I removed the harness from there and plugged it into the back of the clock and they came back.

Took the running boards off too.
