Up until today I was under the impression that the E-Locker was only available in TRD Tacomas i.e. 1998 and beyond, is this true? I ask because I came across a 1996 dealership brochure that states a locking rear differential was an option in 1996. The link is below for the 1996 Brochure (Blue Truck on Cover). On the 3rd to last page under "PACKAGES" it states that an optional off-road package was available solely for MANUAL TRANSMISSION REGULAR CAB V6 trucks. Included in this package is a locking rear differential! This seems strange to me as I didn't think E-Lockers were available until 1998 in the TRD Packaged Tacoma. Has anyone actually seen a pre '98 Tacoma with an E-Locker in the rear??? If so I want one! Looking forward to any input.

It's true. 95.5-97 Model years the elocker was a factory option. Your correct that the TRD wasn't available until 1998 but the Elocker was around before that. Not sure what the rest of that offroad package you mentioned had with it. And yes there are some V6 regular cabs with Elockers. I'd love to own one of those.
