Door Upholstery Questions?? 4Runner Comparison/My 1000th Post!!
Sorry, tried to be as specific as possible in the title but, trying to combine posts here, mainly just upholstery questions.
Anyone ever tried to re-upholster door panels before? Any problems, etc. I was going to buy a few yards of automotive grade vinyl, and give it a shot. I assembled pool tables, and used to put on pool table felt in high school, so I'm thinking that might help, plus I have done seats on ym dirt bikes and quads a few hundred times. I had the door apart when I had it removed a few weeks ago, and it just looks like the cheap felt they used is stapled on, and backed by a foam. I was going to do away with the foam, and just go right over the wood that's there. Here's what mine looks like now:
Was going to basically replace the cheap grey felt with a tough black vinyl, because it is pretty worn, and stained. Just was wondering if anyone could throw me a few pointers, or tip me off to anything that might be a problem.
Also, semi-interesting, is my truck next to a Dodge Dakota 4x4, was suprised at how much more agressive of a stance it has(compared to the stock dodge on 31s):
Also, this is my 1000th post!!!!!!!! Thanks again, and any tips on the upholstery would be greatly appreciated.

HEAT. your gonna need heat to stretch out the vinyl, and I am not so sure I would do away with the pad, it helps to hide a lit of little imperfections. I used to re-upholster mercedes. Classics. Everything from doors to seats, to covertible tops. But I hated, and no, I dont do it anymore, sorry. should be fairly straightforward though.

Hmm, I'm guessing if I had a large heat lamp, or something to that effect, that I could just heat the roll, and then stretch it into place. I'm thinking vinyl might not be the best bet, and it might be a little better to use twill, or a heavy duty fabric. Thanks for the input.
