Door Jam Sticker reads 15in

My door jam sticker on my 97 RNR 4wd 5spd reads 15 inch wheels and I bought it used and there are 16 inch wheels on there . So my ? is could I put 15 inchers on there and was that maybe a dealer upgrade to the 16's?

I know search. I know that 15's usually wont fit becuase of the calipers but why would the door jam say 15 then? I just cant find an answer

If I remember correctly (from what I've read on here before), most, if not all, say 15 as that is the base "package" for our trucks. The 16" package in an upgrade, and was most likely stock on your truck, meaning most 15s won't clear the calipurs.

I'm not 100% on all that, but I think that's what I've read in the past.

I think you are right on with that. The door jam reads the base specifications. The SR5 upgraded with 16, but door jam still says 15. Not sure of the caliper sizing though.

This question comes up so much.

The easiest thing to do is, turn your wheel all the way and look back from behind the caliper and look to see how close your caliper is to the inside of the wheel.

Mine, with 16" rims has less than an inch clearance...so, it wouldnt work on my truck. You might have a good inch of clearance and that would be enough, since a 15" rim would only be taking off a half inch all the way around.

My 2002 SR5 4wd 'runner reads 225/75/15 yet, it has 265/70/16 and came that way (I called Toyota and had 'em run the VIN). They also let me know that the recall work had been done.
I wonder if the speedometer is calibrated? That's a pretty big difference- especially since I'm thinking of moving up a size to 265/75s.

I'm not 100% sure on this but, I think I read here somewhere that they change things/add options once they get off the boat. Again, I'm not sure on that...
