Door ajar light, and Optima not turning engine over

ok a few weeks ago I put in the optima yellow battery. It started right up and ran fine. and then while I was putting in the BL I had the truck in the garage for about two weeks with the battery disconnected. When I reconnected the battery it wouldn't start, and the door ajar light was on. I jump started the truck and it started right up. I then checked all the doors and they were secure. I then walked around and pushed in all the little black buttons on all the doors that tell the truck if the door is open, but the light was still on. I checked the rear hatch as well but I couldn't find the black button back there.

When I turn the truck off it wouldn't start back up on its own. The dash lights come on and then when you turn the key you here a machine gun "rat-tat-tat-tat". I then pulled the fuse for the dash lights and all the lights on the dash go off except the door ajar one.

I then pulled the optima out stuck the old battery back in and it starts up fine. But I stilll can't figue out what I did to do the door ajar light.

any ideas on what my problem is with the battery and the dash light?

thanks

I'd check your alarm system. I know that when I unlock/disarm my alarm, my dome light comes on, and the door ajar light comes on. It may be that your alarm is holding something on, and discharging the battery.

Try disconnecting your alarm module, and let it sit for a while.

I too have an aftermarket alarm. If you did anything during the BL you COULD have MAYBE in an EXTREME case ripped out the wires for the black door button things. Even then, it would just not turn your dome on.

Is your dome light not turning off?

ok I just ran out and checked. Yeah if I leave the dome light on "door" and close the door it still stays on.

I bet either one of your door switches is broken, or the alarm is forgetting to turn off the lights after the delay. The back hatch door switch on my 4runner is often tempermental, and it's possibly the same on your's. Go all around and SLAM the doors, then get in and check if that light ever goes off.

But wouldn't pulling the fuse for the dash lights make it go away? Why does it still stay on when all the other lights and the gauges have no power?

I'll pull the viper control unit tomorrow. Its pain to get to it. I don't think it has anything to do with the alarm.. I think I may have pinned a wire somewhere.

That really gets me. I now have no idea, but I'm still leaning to an alarm. I guess it would be wise to check your body mount area for damaged wires.

well I finally got a chance to run the optima back out to advanced auto. He tested it and it was at 45 CCA. So it took an hour to crank it back up to 850CCA. I still wanted a new battery and not this one, so after much "discussion" he finally gave it to me.

Although now that I think about it, I think maybe the door ajar light might have drained the battery. But then why isn't it draining the stock one. I mean the light is still on. I have no clue how to fix it, will work on it this weekend.
