I believe it allows more fluid to travel through the transmission thus reducing the heat buildup...which blows trans's.

What PHXTRDRunner said. The VB upgrade improves the fluid paths through the VB and trans allowing it to shift harder and quicker. Ever noticed how the auto takes a while to shift between gears, as if it's slipping? The delay and slip is what builds heat in the trans and destroys the clutch packs.
The VB upgrade is more for longevity but the peformance is also nice.

My understanding is that it changes the band lockup points (done by changing the fluid flow)......on a stock tranny they wanted to allow the bands to slip more and give you smoother shifts.....not a problem for heat buildup on a normally aspirated motor. On a supercharged motor you are able to make the bands slip much more because of the huge increase in torque and HP and this slippage creates a massive amount of heat which must be dispersed (and it has no where to go). If you are not a jackrabbit off the line with the new S/C you might be ok, but most have the S/C for just that .......acceleration!!!......so if your going to try to test your 0-60 times.....do yourself a favor and save the tranny from an iminent rebuild and do the mod.
