Question Dome Lights

I have a quick question. I have a 97 Limited and I was wondering if the dome light in the rear is supposed to come on when the doors are opened or if it just comes on when the rear hatch is opened. The front dome light alone doesn't provide much light inside even with Raybrig's in it. I noticed the door switch on the back light, but it doesn't come on, is something screwed up or is this normal and if not, is there a way to override this? Thanks.

If I recall correctly it is supposed to come on. Can you get it to come on at all? Bulb burned out? I'm pretty sure that both domes are supposed to come on when any of the 5 doors are opened.

On my 2000 the back light does not come on unless I open the back hatch. The switch in the rear has the same three settings as the front one. HTH....

As for as lights go, I'm nut too sure how close my 2nd gen is to your 3rd. Anyhow, my light above the tail gate only goes on when the tail gate is down or when light is turned on manually. It doesn't go on if any of the front doors are open.

Hope you get it working.
Have fun.

The rear light will only come on when the rear door is open.

I checked the bulb and even replaced it with the Reybrig and it will come on if I open the hatch, but not the doors. I guess that is the way it is designed then if it isn't just me. Thanks anyway. Just need more light! Any ideas of how to do this? Maybe splice the power to the front one to the back one somehow?

Question for all owners who answered. Is it a switched ground like on the older stuff?

I bet you can do it by splicing the ground wires if it is switched on the ground side. Leave the ground intact, just run a jump wire from it to the ground of the front dome. You would have to take the whole headliner just about all the way out though. What a pain.

I stand corrected on its operation. My bad.

The single dome is kinda weak by itself. The Raybrig super white really gives a ton more light over the stock bulb. A lot of us have done the footwell mods that really give great floor lighting. I really don't need/want the rear cargo area to light up unless I'm back there. With the dome and footwell lights, I can find/see anything.
