Does your Horn Sound Weak?

I am embarrassed to use my horn.

It sounds like it's from a 2 cylinder camry that was totaled.

Is it typical that the horn sounds so weak or is mine busted? If that is normal is there a plug and play oem replacement from another vehicle that sounds better?

Thanks

They are puny sounding, even when stock.

I got some horns from a late 70's full sized Cadillac in a PnP. I only used two, but they come in sets of 4 (all different tones).

Makes it sound a bit more assertive, not like a palm buzzer.

On my 1st gen 4runner, I swapped in a single horn from a Jetta.

On my Tacoma, I'm using a pair of horns from a Lexus LS400.

I swapped in some high power FIAMM horns back in 1999, the first year I owned it. The stockers were pitiful.

Are any of the horns you guys mention plug and play? with the same connectors maybe from a lexus or other Toyota?

If not is it just splicing a couple of wires together? I don't want to get into a scenario where I short out the fuse when I use the horn, fry stock wiring with aftermarket horns or can't fit the new horns in the same exact spot.

I appreciate your suggestions

I'm sure the Lexus horns are PnP. The Caddy horns were - other than a slight bit of grinding on the bracket here and there, then the wire plugged right on.

Can anyone verify a horn that is plug and play and fits in the stock location?

Thanks!

I actually found the horn housings to be both broken and completely missing.
I think this was causing the wimpy horn sound on my car and probably everyone elses. I don't think they put a bad horn in the car to begin with.

Nope. It was wimpy new. I noticed it on the drive home from the dealer in 1999 and I swapped the horn that year.
