i have trd pads with power slot rotors on my tacoma, this is the second set of trd pads i have had with these rotors, i have about 3000 miles on these new pads and now have developed a squeek, had it for about 3-4 weeks, everytime i use my brakes i have a very noticable squeek. I have 90% left on the pads according to the dealer, they say everything is fine, they looked at it, and say its the harder compound trd pads, and there is nothing i can do. The squeek is pretty bad, and doe not seem normal to me, has anyone else experienced this?

I had that same problem when I ran the TRD pads with OEM rotors. It got so annoying I went back to the stock pads and have not had the problem since.

its annoying and embarassing to be driving around with the squeek and people always looking like i need new brakes, but they are new brakes, i am thinking about taking them off.

HUTCH, I had this problem with the camry. When you use the ceramic brake pads, they squeek. It's a toss up, use cheap pads and get the dust, or the good pads and get the squeek

I don't have TRD pads but I have semi-metallics. I complained about a squeek as well but only upon start up and driving for the first five minutes or so. My mechanic said this was normal as the pads need to heat up.

I do notice that the squeeking goes away after I've applied the brakes a few times but really embarrasing in the parking lot at work.

obviously none of you guys have ever driven a car with race pads. those suckers squeek and grind and make all kinds of awful noise. but they stop hella fast. I ran them on my old miata for a while. took them off because they dont stop cold, so when i start, i had to drag the brakes for a min or i would go really really far when trying to stop, had a few scares tring to make stop signs ect.
my 4runners pads squeel a little when lightly braking, but it hasnt bothered me yet. im going to do the tundra brake upgrade as soon as these pads are gone.

Of course they squeak. You are using a pad that is not suited for your usage. A race type pad is a harder compound and needs to be warmed to work properly and not squeak. They were never designed for street use where the usage is infrequent and they can cool down between uses. Use a street pad that is better suited to your requirements and they won't squeak.

Rob, any recommendations? I'm running Raybestos pads that came w/ the calipers as I did the Tundra brake upgrade.

Was your comment just for the TRD pads?

Personally, I am a fan of pads that are cheap, cheap and cheap, when it comes to front brakes. They stop better when cold, they don't squeak and they are cheap, cheap, cheap The only downside is that they need to be replaced more often, but that is a 10 minute job, so what?

I tend to heat pads up and then dunk them, so they shatter. They are wet half the time and getting ridden the other half of the time... There is no point for me to spend more on pads that don't stop as well and get trashed anyway.

For pretty much anyone but rally racers and desert guys, the high-end, name-brand, status pads make no sense. Go with a cheap to moderately priced pad. Yes, you will have to replace them once in a while and you might see more brake dust, but it will stop on a dime without warming the brakes up and if you trash a set, you aren't out big bucks.

Did you guys properly break your new pads when you got them?? I put a set of KVR semi mettalic's on my car and they seem to work just fine, and its a daily driver in the summer months. But you have to follow the instructions on how to break in new pads from the manufacturer.

But for the Toyota, I agree with WATRD, cheap is the way to go. Get you regular cheap auotpart store brand name pads. When it come to high wear components like brakes, I don't see the point in spending big bucks on a vehicle you drive year round.
