I put a set of Firestone Destination MT's 32" (on steelies) on my 2002 4Runner...question is...at highway speeds (starting around 50 MPH) i am getting a wiggle or shimmy...(and they are balanced)

Is this normal with mudders???

who balanced them? my boggers do that but they arent balanced. either a wheel is bent you they just arent balanced right

is it a wobble like its unbalanced or is it just a virbation? My LTBs shake and vibrate alot while I'm drviing especially on the freeway

brand new steelies...so the wheels should be straight. It's more of a forward backward wiggle in the chassis (it feels like)...not a steering vibration...more of a bouncy wiggle.

I wouldn't expect 32s to have a lot of carcass flex, but mudder tread will deform a lot more than regular tires. They will feel a little different, but for those tires not much. (35s squirm around quite a bit for example) I'd expect to feel some vibration from the tread, but that's it. Play with your air pressure, and make sure they are balanced properly.

i will check the pressures and have them check the balancing...it's funny though take my foot off the gas...and the wiggling stops...step on the gas and the wiggling is more noticeable...and only as of 50MPH+???

Bad spark plug?
Did you do anything with your suspension when you changed tires? Or anything else for that matter. Sounds more like driveline vibration or maybe a bad ujoint. (Well, except for that technical term "wiggling" - can't quite get a handle on that.) Bad rear control arm bushing maybe? DId you double check your lug nuts after a hundred miles or so, and again at say 500 miles?

There will be more wiggle than the stock tires had. They are made of a softer compound, so theres more give to them.

I put those tires (except in a 33) on my truck, They tend to grab all road imperfections (cracks grooves ect) and move a little (left to right). a new steering stabilizer helps
(plug for: trdparts4u.com OME stabilizer). also if you are changing diameter to a bigger tire it may "Amplify" drive line movement and give you more feed back. And finaly any time you add something new to the truck you become super sensitive, trying to "feel the difference" no matter how small the change... I'm gonna get my destinations dirty this weekend and see how they work..

yeah shiftless....it's partly the tire that is grabbing everything on the road and they do shimmy a bit

...but also found out that my steering rack has 2 loose bushings. (need to source some polyurethane ones...if they exist) dealer says its a 1 piece part ($1000 CND) for the whole steering rack...but my mechanic friend says i should be able to get just the bushings and replace. He said poly ones would be better.

whats the steering stabilizer your talking about?

Your gonna love your destination mt's in the trails...mine haven't let me down yet...they're just a little freaky on the highways.

Sorry, not sure if your rig has a stabilizer! I was thinking in terms of older trucks/runners. Its a shock absober for your steering linkage! check with trdparts4u.com for a price on steering racks. They cary a remanufactured line now. much less $$. Gonna try the tires out this weekend!
