Do lift springs need a longer shock?
I'm helping a friend with his 1998 4x4 Tacoma. He got a 2 1/4 inch coil spring lift for the front and a 2 1/2 inch leaf spring lift for the rear. My question is will he need to get longer shocks? If so do you guys know what size would fit and where would be a cheap place to order them?
I appreciate any help!

sure does
Yeah you will need longer shocks. Bilstein makes some different varieties for lifted vehicles if he wants something similar to what came on the TRD's(5100's, 5150's). There are some other varieties out there as well(OME, KYB, Rancho....etc). Just run a search on here and check out some of the reviews. Some are better suited for different kinds of on and off road driving characteristics. www.wheelersoffroad.com has some good info and quite a few choices for these types of shocks. As far as "size", you just need something that is suited to match the amount of lift your running.....ie 2 1/2 inches. You will find some MFG's offer the 2 different lengths for the rear and some dont. As long as they are for lifted applications you should be fine. Stock, the Taco came with 2 different lengths in the rear to match the different mounting points for the rear setup. Happy hunting!
